The best ideas sometimes come out of the blue. And what makes them even better is when everybody wins – as happened with the company padel tennis tournament at De Broekhoek Tennis and Padel Association in Heesch. We spoke to Chair Carlo van Haaren to find out more.
Carlo, tell us what happened.
“As an association, we are keen to have a societal impact. We decided to join forces with Arno van de Ven, who plays padel tennis with us, to help young people who could do with a little extra support. Board member Jeroen Janssen suggested the Dream4Kids foundation in Rosmalen. The foundation helps kids regain their self-confidence by organizing ‘dream days’, which are all about carefree fun.”
How were you able to help this foundation?
“We quickly came up with the idea of organizing a company tournament. Arno was the perfect ambassador, and we ended up with 18 pairs on the court, each of whom had contributed €250. Vetico also donated an amount, which we were able to double by means of drinks and other amenities. The result was a perfect combination of sports, fun and social impact.”
And what was the outcome?
“First of all, the event itself was great. On top of that, we raised an amazing €5,760! The impact became even clearer to us when we presented the check. The Dream4Kids representative shared inspiring practical examples of the good that the foundation does.”
How did you feel about that?
“I felt grateful and proud. We’ve been able to do something for young people who can’t count on having a worry-free life. Right from the moment we announced the event, it felt good. But you only really make a difference by actually doing it, and that feels great.”
and togetherness”
Will you do this again?
“We already have plans in place. From now on, the third Friday of September will be a day of connection, friendship and togetherness. Vetico has also already pledged its support. And if Arno is just as fanatical about recruiting participants, we might have to consider adding extra courts… In short, we’re already looking forward to next time!”
