Twan Hurkmans started as our IT manager in November 2024. During his first year, the IT team returned to its full capacity, key users underwent training in the ERP system, and several projects got underway. In other words, there was plenty going on.
Twan, how do you feel about your first year at Vetico?
“Good, on both the personal and professional levels. Vetico is a family business grounded in Brabant, with an approach that favours short lines of communication and directness, focusing on cooperation. Working at an ambitious company like Vetico, there are always opportunities for improvement in the IT area. I haven’t experienced a single moment of boredom, and given our strategy for the future, I don’t see that happening any time soon.”
Which result stands out the most?
“Our new ERP system. We implemented it in record time, and it’s a solid foundation for further growth. The key users have already undergone training, and the business is now being prompted to provide direction. Our new ERP system mainly differs from our previous one in that it is more standardized, which means it is more versatile, support is better, and there are more relevant add-ons and AI tools. This will enable us as a company to be much more flexible, onwards into the future.”
What developments are still ahead?
“During 2026, we will be connecting our last companies to the new ERP system. We will be able to make great progress in optimizing our business processes by means of further integrations and the latest technologies. Because the digital world is evolving rapidly, this involves both opportunities as well as risks and dangers. Consequently, we want to refine our cyber security policy and raise our employees’ security awareness to a higher level, with the European NIS2 directive as a guiding principle.”
Where will all of this lead?
“Together with a partner, we are currently preparing for our future IT landscape. The best thing is that we are all doing this together as a company, with management providing ambition and strategy, the user organization providing direction for improvements to processes, and IT providing the vision and the technical frameworks. This process has resulted in a vision document, a powerful digital roadmap that sets out Vetico’s growth ambitions.”
digital future together”
Is it true that we’re also going to slightly rearrange our IT support?
“Yes, that’s right. Our employees currently still rely on external IT support, but we will be gradually taking that over ourselves more in the future. We will be collaborating with our partner within our own IT Support Desk, with the aim of facilitating communication, understanding problems faster, and taking more decisive action. This will not only enhance our efficiency, it should also increase user satisfaction.”
Those are great goals to work on!
“And there’s more ahead… The IT team has plenty more goals and sub-goals, all aligned with Vetico’s growth and innovation ambitions. Everyone understands that a solid IT infrastructure is not an encumbrance; it’s a valuable tool for realizing ambitions. It feels good to be part of that.”
