Since January 1, ECM Europe has a new Managing Director: Marc Boomaars. With extensive experience in the medical device industry and a strong affinity for family-owned businesses, he quickly felt at home here. Marc introduces himself and shares his ambitions and first impressions.
So, who is Marc Boomaars?
“I feel completely at home in the southern Netherlands. I’ve been living in Breda for many years with my wife and our two children. In my free time I like to stay active, whether it’s playing padel or walking the dog. I also enjoy being around people, so I spend a lot of time with family and friends. That naturally carries over into my work, where I most enjoy collaborating with teams and helping organizations move forward.”
How would you describe your career so far?
into its next phase”
What made ECM interesting to you?
“First and foremost, the team. There’s a remarkable level of expertise, motivation, and drive, both in production and in management. I already noticed that during the conversations I had before joining. I also feel comfortable in family-owned businesses: they tend to have a stronger focus on the long term and genuine attention for people. The combination of a strong team and family values made ECM a natural choice for me. I’m convinced that together we’ll move the company into its next phase.”
What does that next stage look like?
“Our foundation is strong: a stable product portfolio, loyal customers, and a committed team. That next stage is really about building on that foundation. We want to broaden our portfolio so we’re less dependent on a limited number of specialties. There’s also still a great deal of untapped potential internationally. Right now, our main markets are the Netherlands and German-speaking countries, but markets such as France, Italy, and Spain also offer opportunities. Further automating our production processes is also part of that next step.”
Why are you a good fit for those ambitions?
“I think my background aligns well with ECM’s ambitions. I have experience with international growth, and I believe in strengthening what already works. It’s not about changing everything overnight, but about improving step by step and continuing to build together.”
How have your first few months been at ECM?
“I couldn’t have asked for a better start. From day one, there’s been a real sense of familiarity. The organization works exactly the way I expected it to. I also received an incredibly warm welcome, which helped me settle in quickly and roll up my sleeves right away.”
What has stood out to you the most?
“ECM truly is a team. Everyone wants to move forward and takes responsibility. That allows us to move things ahead quickly. I may lead from the front, but that only works if the team moves with you. You can really feel that here.”
What will your focus be during the coming period?
“We’re working hard to complete the MDR process and finalize our plans for the rest of 2026. We’re also looking at how we can optimize production processes, and how we can further leverage our collaboration with Vetico, for example to drive innovation. Another priority for me is maintaining close contact with our customers, suppliers, and end users. That helps us better understand what their needs will be in the years ahead – crucial insights for the company’s next phase.”
