Vetipak Personal Care in Oss has earned EcoVadis Gold. Recognition for the work Vetico has put into sustainability over the past few years. The award also gives the company fresh energy to keep building a more sustainable business.
More and more clients expect their suppliers to prove they operate sustainably. For one international personal care client, EcoVadis Gold was a key requirement. And for us? Not a box-ticking exercise, but the next logical step, one that lines up perfectly with our own ambitions. Sustainability Advisor Job de Groot explains how we reached gold, and why it’s pushing us to raise the bar even higher.
EcoVadis Gold: in the top 5%
“EcoVadis looks at how an organization performs across four areas: environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement,” Job says. “With our gold rating, our Personal Care sites now rank among the top five percent of all companies assessed. That’s something to be proud of. We also run SMETA audits at this site and one other, which test the same themes. We use the insights from both assessments across all of Vetico. This is how we improve our sustainability policy and other processes company-wide.”
Not an overnight jump
“You don’t make a leap like this from one day to the next. Sure, we found some quick wins, but the biggest gains came from how we organized sustainability as a whole. We used to work from a handful of separate documents; now everything sits in one policy plan built around EcoVadis’s requirements. We also mapped our full CO₂ footprint, including emissions upstream and downstream of our own operations. Not many companies our size calculate their scope 3 emissions.”
If anything, it's given us more energy to keep improving.
“We also brought in Nexio Projects as outside specialists. They took a hard look at our policy and our EcoVadis assessment. A lot of the improvements came down to small changes, like a clearer structure or breaking out figures by entity. In 2025, we were still in the top 19%; a year later, we’d moved up to the top 6%. Since gold was so close, we asked for a careful recheck of the assessment. It turned out EcoVadis had made an error. Once corrected, we landed in the top 5% after all.”
What’s next?
“EcoVadis Gold doesn’t feel like a finish line to us. If anything, it’s given us more energy to keep improving. We might even go for Platinum next, which puts you in the top 1%. In the end, it’s not about the medal. It’s about the question: how can we be more sustainable tomorrow than we are today? We want to keep moving forward, and keep contributing to our customers’ and society’s sustainability goals.”
